Top Piedmont Winery Giovanni Rosso Is Awarded Prestigious Sustainability Accolade and Debuts Highly Regarded 2018 Cerretta Barolo DOCG for Sale on La Place de Bordeaux

Never a winery to rest on their laurels, Giovanni Rosso proudly announces their ground-breaking certification for environmental, ethical and economic sustainability. In a recent assessment conducted by internationally renowned Equalitas, the vineyards and the winery alike were rigorously evaluated and awarded the status of “Sustainable Winery”. This additional label will appear on all new vintages from November 2022.

The winery will continue to be audited annually and are delighted to be contributing to the reduction in environmental impact. There are three main areas which are evaluated by Equalitas: environmental, social and economic. These pillars encompass all aspects of the winery from business management and processes, to stakeholders as well as community and cultural projects – which taken in their entirety demonstrate the reach of this prestigious winery.

This is a real achievement for everyone involved, and something very close to the heart of Owner and Winemaker Davide Rosso who said “Being a long-established family winery, we understand the value and responsibility we have for future generations. We want to leave as minimal an environmental impact as we can whilst we continue to produce wine of the highest quality with a true sense of its place.”

In another historic milestone Giovanni Rosso introduces 2018 Cerretta Barolo D.O.C.G for sale via Bordeaux’s La Place. May 2021 saw Giovanni Rosso’s, 2018 Etna Rosso, became the first Etna wine to be available to purchase via the Bordeaux fine wine sales system and the producer is keen to build on this success.

Giovanni Rosso will continue to work with selected internationally renowned negociants Joanne, Barriere Freres, Louis Vialard, LD Vins, Descaves, Ballande & Meneret, Alias and Maison Ginestet to showcase their 2018 Cerretta Barolo D.O.C.G. Releasing approximately 7,000 bottles, which is almost the entire production, to La Place.

The 2018 Cerretta wine which is 100% Nebbiolo from the Serralunga d’Alba region of Piedmont has already achieved critical acclaim, garnering scores of 97/100 from Gardini Notes and 95/100 from Wine Enthusiast.

The Cerretta vineyard which sits at 350-365 m.a.s.l has been owned by the family since 1920 and was partially replanted in 1984 and again in 2000. This amphitheatre shaped plot, with eastern and south-eastern exposure has calcareous-clay soil. This unique topography creates a micro-climate perfect for the Nebbiolo grapes.

The vinification process sees skin contact for 27 days in concrete tanks with daily pumping over. Aged in French oak barrels of 25 and 50 hl for 35 months, the wine presents a stunning ruby red colour, a nose of sour cherries and woodland berries with hints of floral and herbaceous notes. The ripe tannins create a balanced framework of refined structure delivering succulent fruit, tobacco and balsamic to taste.

Notes to Editors

The Rosso Family have been farming vineyards in Serralunga d’Alba since the 1890s, becoming not just a Barolo producer, but a Serralunga wine producer.

Giovanni Rosso created his own winery in the 1990s, with son Davide taking over the wine making process in 2001 at just 27 years of age. The goal has always been to create the finest wines with the mantra that “wine should be a perfect copy of its terroir” referring, in this case, to the one of Serralunga d’Alba, considered among the best soils in the world.

Having founded, developed, and expanded the company Giovanni Rosso, Davide and his mother Ester have achieved great success and worldwide recognition. Always excited by challenge and looking to test their values of innovation and excellence, Giovanni Rosso expanded, looking to Sicily and now produces wines of the highest quality from the Etna region.

The wines of Giovanni Rosso are today enjoyed in some of the finest restaurants and hotels around the globe and can be found on the shelves of the most exclusive wine merchants.
