Mirabai Chanu started 2021 on a good note when she won the bronze medal at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent. Mirabai lifted 86 kg in snatch and then lifted 119 kg in the clean and jerk, for a total of 205 kg for a world record.
The only Indian woman weightlifter to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics, Mirabai created history by winning the silver medal in 49 kg division with a total lift of 202 kg. Mirabai not only won the first medal for India at the Tokyo Olympics, but she also made a new Olympic record with a lift of 115 kg in clean and jerk.
