YouTube Music gets real-time lyrics feature

The lyrics feature on YouTube Music is not a new thing, as it was previously available too. That said, it was a rather static piece of text, which users could manually scroll. It was more or less a shortcut for the users, as instead of trying to search for the lyrics of a particular song on, say, Google, they could access the same within the app itself. That, however, is not an ideal solution, especially because other rival platforms like Spotify and Apple Music have had real-time lyrics sync feature for long.

YouTube Music has finally (seemingly) realised the importance of this feature, and has made it available to its users. The developers have been working to add this feature for several months now. For those unaware, Google announced a partnership with Musixmatch back in October last year. Musixmatch is an industry-leading real-time lyrics provider, and the testing phase for the real-time lyrics feature in collaboration with the same, which started in December, seems to be over, and the public release is finally happening.

Do note that the update is a server-side update, so you won’t need to hit the Google Play Store or the Apple App store and update your app to receive this feature. Instead, the update appears to be account-specific, and will eventually roll out to everyone. If you access your YouTube Music library from more than one Google account and are unable to receive the update yet, you might want to check it out from some other account. In any case, since it is a public rollout, it won’t take too long to reach every account.
