This is what Google senior executive has to say on Microsoft’s suggestion to users downloading Chrome browser using Edge – Times of India

Microsoft has been trying hard to wean away users from Google’s Chrome to its Edge browser. The software giant initially had made it quite complicated for users to download and use Chrome on Windows 11 machines. While past versions of Windows allowed users to set up Google Chrome as the default browser with one or two clicks, this wasn’t the case when Windows 11 first became available to the public. The OS Build 22000.593 released in March 2022 brought back the do-it-all default button that allowed users to set Google Chrome as default browser. This means there’s now a single button in Windows 11 Settings that users need to press to make Google Chrome their go-to browser.
However, Microsoft still asks users to continue using Edge if they search Google Chrome on the browser. The first search result that appears for users is Microsoft promoted and it suggests users to download Edge. “There’s no need to download a new web browser. Microsoft recommends using Microsoft Edge for a fast, secure, and modern web experience that can help save you time and money,” says the message on a banner, followed by a button ‘Try Now’.
The same was recently shared by the YouTuber Marques Browsniee, popularly called MKBH, on Twitter, with the line: I still find this hilarious. Google senior vice president (Android, Chrome, Chrome OS, Play, Photos) Hiroshi Lockheimer retweeted Browniee’s tweet with the word “hilarious”, preceded by emoji.

Lockheimer had criticised Microsoft earlier when the company had initially made switching your default browser from Edge to Chrome or Firefox harder. The SVP at Google, said that this new [default browser] change comes from “the company that claims to be the most open with the most choice. This is far from “choice.”. Firefox officials also criticised Microsoft for forcing “additional and unnecessary steps to set and retain default browser settings.”
