Android updates for OnePlus smartphones

As per the report, Li Jie, OnePlus’ president for the Chinese market, has said that the OnePlus 11 5G, OnePlus Ace 2, and OnePlus Ace 2V would get four major Android updates as well as five years of security patches, indicating that the OnePlus 11 5G would be eligible for the Android 17.

The costs for the company to maintain its phones for more than four years after the launch would be more than CNY 100 million, which is approximately Rs 119 crore, citing Jie, the report said. It should be noted that the information was provided by the president of OnePlus’ Chinese subsidiary. Therefore, we are still waiting for official confirmation from the representatives of OnePlus around the world.

With this, the company would have the longest support for its flagship models, along with  Samsung and Google.

Android updates on Samsung, Google phones

Last year, South Korean tech giant Samsung stated that its flagship devices would receive four years of Android OS updates and that the midrange Samsung Galaxy A53 would launch with the same software support. For Pixel flagship smartphones, Google pledges three significant Android OS updates over the course of five years and five years of security updates. The mid-range Google Pixel 6a is also said to receive five years of security updates.

It can be said that users will place a high level of trust in a company if it offers four years of OS upgrades and five years of security patches. This is because software support is frequently considered one of the purchasing decisions. Additionally, after paying a premium, this will permit users to keep their devices for longer. As a result, there will be fewer phones to recycle, which is good for the environment.
