These iPhones won’t get iOS 17 update: check whether your iPhone is on the list
These iPhones won’t get iOS 17 update
Like every year, Apple is dropping support to older iPhones mainly considering they don’t have enough hardware support to run the latest iOS version. iOS 17 will be available for iPhone XS/iPhone XR and above. This means that iPhone X and all other iPhones with TouchID are not eligible for the iOS 17 update.
These models will not be getting the iOS 17 update and will be restricted to their current OS version.
iOS 17 update features
- Phone app: The phone app is getting an overhaul. There is a new feature called Poster, which lets you add an image of the contact and the same will show up on your recipient’s iPhone when you call them. There is also an option to add live voicemail, which will serve you live transcription of the message from the caller in case you don’t answer calls.
- FaceTime: With iOS 17, FaceTime will support audio and video messages which can be shared with contacts.
- iMessage: The messaging app on iPhone gets a new search filter for narrow results, a new catch-up icon to jump to the most recent messages, and a transcription of voice messages, along with Check-In that shares the live location and status with someone.
- Stickers: There is the ability to add any emoji or photo cutout on the device as a ‘Sticker’. Users can also turn Live Photos into animated stickers, add effects and use them to chat with others.
- AirDrop: AirDrop is getting NameDrop, which will allow users to share their selected email ID, contact number, and posters wirelessly. This works by bringing the two iPhones near each other. The feature also works between an iPhone and Apple Watch.
- Keyboard: iPhone keyboard updates include inline predictive predictions and sentence-level autocorrections.
- Journal: Apple has introduced a new app called Journal. This will help iPhone users reflect and practice gratitude through journaling. The app is said to use on-device machine learning to personalise suggestions. The suggestions will be curated based on recent activity, using photos, people, places, workouts, and more.
- StandBy Display: StandBy Display offers glanceable information such as date, time, photos, and more. The display can be personalised with a range of clock styles, favourite photos, or widgets, including Smart Stacks. There is also support for Live Activities, Siri, Incoming Calls, and Large notifications.
