These ‘India-centric’ features are coming to your iPhone later this year – Times of India
Siri gets smarter in more languages
With iOS 17, Siri has become bilingual, which means users can interact with Apple’s voice assistant using a mix of English and Hindi for various activities. Not just that, there’s an option to combine English with Telugu, Punjabi, Kannada or Marathi. For instance, users can just ask Siri to set an alarm or timer, send messages, making calls, play music, checking the weather, and look up directions for any particular destination.
Transliteration keyboards for Indian languages
Transliteration is the process of converting text or words from one writing system or script to another. It involves representing the sounds of words in one language using the corresponding characters or symbols of another language.
iOS 17 brings new transliteration keyboards across major Indian languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. These keyboards are helpful for bilingual users who move between English and another language while talking to family and friends. With iOS 16, Apple had introduced Bengali, Marathi as well as Hindi. With iOS 17, iPhones now support transliteration keyboards for the top ten languages in India.
Dual-SIM features
Apart from this, with iOS 17, users can see Messages sorted by their primary as well as secondary SIM. For example, users will be able to sort personal messages from work messages. Users can also set different ringtones for each SIM. Also, if a user misses a call from a number that is not yet saved to their device, they can choose to call this number back from either SIM card.
