The Age is the most read Victorian-based masthead in the country, with an audience of 5.9 million readers per month.
New figures released by Roy Morgan show The Age is becoming more popular in states outside of Victoria, including NSW, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. It has 1.4 million more readers than its direct competitor the Herald Sun, which is owned by News Corp Australia.

A large number of The Age’s readers – 88 per cent – consume their news online. The Monday-to-Friday print edition of The Age has a readership of 258,000, while The Sunday Age print edition is read by 382,000 people. The Age has also experienced a 6 per cent increase in readers aged between 14 and 17 years old.
The amount of digital and print readers combined makes The Age the second-largest publication in the country, ahead of The Australian (with an average readership of 5 million) and The Herald Sun, which has 4.5 million readers.
The Age’s sister publication The Sydney Morning Herald is the country’s largest masthead with 8.4 million readers.
This is the fourth round of figures to be released under new measurement provider Roy Morgan. The data covers all news brands and digital news websites and audiences on Apple News and Google News.
