Tata Safari EV spied testing on public roads

Two Tata Safari EVs (registration number: KA51TC161/1 and KA51TC161/2) test mules have been identified testing on the roads fully camouflaged (via MotorBeam and Rushlane). Tata Motors could be testing out the new powertrain architecture that was showcased underpinning the Tata Harrier EV at the Auto Expo 2023. Not many changes are visible on the outside apart from the overall silhouette of the car which is traditionally butch and continues to have the rugged appeal of an SUV. However, despite the camouflage, the Tata Safari EV can be seen wearing the Tata Harrier EV concept derived from a grille, a redesigned headlamp cluster and a new set of blacked-out alloys. The Safari EV could also sport an LED light bar that runs across the breadth of the car.

The Land Rover-derived D8 monocoque platform (Omega Arc) which underpins the Tata Harrier and Tata Safari has likely been altered to suit the characteristics of the new electric powertrain. The new powertrain will come mated to what is being touted as the Gen 2 platform from Tata. The new underpinnings will accommodate a battery pack larger than the one present in the Nexon EV. Rumours suggest that the battery pack could be as big as 60kWh and the Tata Safari EV could boast of up to 500km of range on a single charge. The Tata Safari EV could also be raised slightly further to balance out the added weight and also protect the floorboard-mounted battery pack from belly scrapes. The Tata Safari EV is also expected to be launched with an AWD system thanks to a dual motor setup.

The upcoming Tata Safari EV is expected to feature new-age features like a large 10.25-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ventilated seats, powered seats, ambient lighting, fully digital MID, panoramic sunroof, six airbags, ABS + EBD, ADAS, etc. The vehicle is also expected to get a vehicle-to-load option that will allow users to sip juice from the car’s battery to operate items as large as household appliances.

There is however no indication of a launch timeline or the pricing of the upcoming Tata Safari EV.
