Hours after an FIR was filed against actor Ranveer Singh over his nude photoshoot on Tuesday, fellow actor Swara Bhasker reacted strongly to the development, calling it ‘foolishness’. Quote tweeting a tweet about the charges filed against Ranveer Singh in the case, Swara Bhasker wrote, “Unbelievable foolishness and unemployment is rampant in our country!” Earlier in the day, police in Chembur registered a case against Ranveer under sections 292 (dealing with obscene materials falls within this exception thereby addressing the issue of public decency and morality), 293 (obscene objects to young person) and 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) including 67 (A) of the Information Technology Act.
The written application was submitted at the Chembur police station by a Mumbai-based lawyer Vedika Chaubey, who alleged in her complaint that the actor has hurt the sentiments of women in general and insulted their modesty through his photographs.
Ranveer had appeared on the cover of Paper magazine earlier this month in the nude. A day after the magazine posed the pictures from the shoot on social media, Ranveer, too shared them on his Instagram. His pictures were met with both praise and criticism on social media. A few days ago, Swara had reacted to the controversy around Ranveer’s pictures, taking on those criticising the actor. Taking to Twitter on Friday, Swara had written, “Daily cases of injustice & oppression in India, but sure.. our outrage is reserved for @RanveerOfficial ’s photos! I mean, seriously.. don’t like it, don’t look at it! Not your cup of tea, don’t drink it! But don’t ‘thopo (impose)’ your preferences on us! And no, this isn’t a moral issue!”
Ranveer was recently seen in Netflix’s interactive special Ranveer vs Wild with Bear Grylls which received a positive response from viewers. He will next be seen in Rohit Shetty’s next directorial Cirkus with Jacqueline Fernandes and Pooja Hegde. The film is slated to release on the occasion of Christmas 2022.
