Suzuki Burgman electric scooter launch in India tipped

Honda recently announced its plans to launch the electric Honda Activa by March 2024.

Suzuki electric scooter launch in India

Suzuki in a global press release has announced that Suzuki Motorcycle India will be launching its first electric scooter in 2025. This new electric scooter will be aimed at the commuter two-wheeler segment. While the press release indicates that the new electric two-wheeler is a ‘motorcycle’ it is widely understood to be a repercussion of a literal translation. The new electric two-wheeler is most likely to be an electric scooter especially given the target audience.

Suzuki could introduce the electric Burgman maxi scooter that has been on test for some time now. The company could also introduce a mid-size scooter based on Burgman’s electric platform. Suzuki has been testing the electric Burgman platform for about two years now and has been spotted testing on public roads. The Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer has also highlighted its plans to launch up to 8 new electric two-wheelers in India by FY2030. The company estimates that 25 percent of its India lineup will be EVs by FY 2030. Suzuki is also working on introducing larger-capacity bikes that can run on carbon-neutral fuels.

Both the Japanese brands can be seen to be prioritising commuter-specific electric scooters that will be oriented more towards practicality and cater for city runabouts. Neither Honda nor Suzuki are not pursuing high-performance sporty electric two-wheelers at the moment.
