surface duo: Microsoft’s Surface Duo 2 June update brings new features and improvements: All details – Times of India
Microsoft has started rolling out the June update for its Surface Duo 2 foldable smartphone. According to a report by WindowsCentral, the latest update is bigger than the previous two and weighs 736MB. The company claims that the new update will be adding new features and improvements to the mobile platform. One of the most significant features that come with the update includes improvements for the Glance Bar, claims the report.
As per the report, the Glance Bar on the Surface Duo 2 will now be able to support more than just missed calls, SMS, voicemail, and Teams alerts. Users will now be able to add third-party messaging apps like — WhatsApp and Telegram to the Glance Bar with matching icons. Nowadays, users don’t use SMS as much as the third-party messaging apps and this might be the reason for many Surface Duo 2 owners not using the Glance Bar feature. However, the feature is still missing an “always-on” option and the new addition is Microsoft’s response to user feedback, mentions the report.
Microsoft Surface Duo 2 June update: New changes
Apart from the Glance bar showing third-party messaging apps, Microsoft’s June update for the Surface Duo 2 Android foldable phone adds other new features. The company claims that the latest update has improved the “usability” of the Camera app, which can either mean quicker app loading or improved performance. Moreover, the Camera app now also supports Haptic feedback that users can enable from its settings.
The June update has also added a few Slim Pen 2 features that include — automatic firmware update and automatic pairing while using either screen. However, it is important to note that the Slim Pen 2 needs to run the latest firmware and software for this feature to work, which can also be updated directly through Surface Duo 2. Earlier, users had to connect their Slim Pen 2 to a Surface PC to get these updates.
Other than these, Microsoft’s latest update has also added the optimised charging feature to the Surface Duo 2 foldable device. Fast charging is a key feature for both modern smartphones and their users, however, frequent usage of the option can also degrade battery longevity with time. The new update will allow the handset to gradually charge overnight and reduce battery aging.
Microsoft has also added a feature for mobile device management as it has enabled the support for Device Firmware Configuration Interface (DFCI) that controls device usage. Moreover, the new update also adds some regular system improvements that include — stability, performance, responsiveness, camera usability and other fixes. The latest update is also expected to improve the in-app camera experience in the dual-screen mode for apps that require dynamic orientation, just like the original Surface Duo.
The report also suggests that this update will help both Surface Duo 2 and the original Surface Duo users until Google releases the Android 12L update, which is expected to roll out in the fall.
