NEW DELHI: Shubman Gill is in the form of his life as the star Indian player once again stamped his authority as an opening batter with a blistering ODI century against New Zealand in the third ODI at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Tuesday.
The opening duo of skipper Rohit Sharma, who brought up his 30th ODI century, and Gill also brought up their fourth straight fifty-plus opening wicket stand in ODIs and their third in as many matches in the ongoing series vs New Zealand.

Shubman, who notched up his 4th ODI ton, hit 5 sixes and 13 fours in his 78-ball 112 runs knock in Indore. Shubman’s century came on the back of his roaring double ton against the visiting NZ side in the series opener at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Gill (23 years 132 days) recently became the youngest player to score a double ton surpassing teammate Ishan Kishan (24 years 145 days), who struck the fastest-ever double hundred in men’s ODI cricket in the third and final ODI against Bangladesh at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

Gill is also the fifth Indian men’s batter overall to score an ODI double hundred. Rohit Sharma has three double hundreds in ODIs. Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Gayle, Fakhar Zaman and Martin Guptill have hit one double-century each.
Gill also became the fastest Indian to score 1000 ODI runs during the first ODI against NZ. Gill took only 19 innings to attain the milestone, surpassing Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan’s record of 24 innings.
Overall, Gill is also the second best along with Imam-ul-Haq after Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman who took 18 innings to score 1000 ODI runs.
