Stephanie Forshee releases ‘Hidden Gems: Margaret Getchell LaForge’
NEW YORK (PRWEB)
July 25, 2023
Early on during the COVID-19 pandemic, Stephanie Forshee came across a reference to Margaret Getchell being the first female retail executive. As she searched to learn more about her, Forshee quickly realized only a small group of people was aware of Getchell and her accomplishments. Forshee immediately decided that she would be the one to bring Getchell’s remarkable life story to readers’ attention. Getchell accomplished so much within a short life of only 38 years, and Forshee feels it is time for her legacy to finally be remembered.
“Hidden Gems: Margaret Getchell LaForge” (published by Archway Publishing) tells the story of America’s first female executive of a major retail establishment. In 1860, Getchell was hired as a cash clerk at R. H. Macy’s and within six years, she was named superintendent of the entire store where she was second-in-command to Rowland Hussey Macy and oversaw all 200 employees. She was initially hired for her skill with numbers, but she proved to be a savvy business woman who was full of innovative ideas including the addition of a toy department at the store and the suggestion for Macy’s to use a red star as its iconic logo.
“There are other biographical series out there, but none that focus solely on women in business. That’s why I wrote the ‘Hidden Gems for Kids’ series. Children (and adults) need role models who inspire them to pursue their dreams as business leaders. If this book inspires one little girl to see herself as a leader with the potential to thrive in the business world, then ‘Hidden Gems’ has done its job,” Forshee says.
“Hidden Gems: Margaret Getchell LaForge” has been called “an accessible, entertaining, and timeless read” by Macy’s former EVP and CFO Paula Price, a “tale of glittering strength and inspiration” by New York Times-bestselling author Allison Pataki, and “a fantastic contribution to children’s literature” by Robin Gerber, biographer and author of “Barbie and Ruth.”
When asked what she wants readers to take away from the book, Forshee answered, “I want readers to feel inspired that they too can accomplish anything. Margaret blazed a trail for countless women in the business world to benefit from. I want young readers to know that they add value to the world. They are gems and deserve to shine!” For more details about the book, please visit https://www.archwaypublishing.com/en/bookstore/bookdetails/848331-hidden-gems
