Spotify’s Latest Premium Feature Is A Play Button, But You Probably Can’t Use It Yet | Digit

Spotify for Android and iOS is finally getting the ability to play and shuffle individual songs from a playlist or album. The popular music streaming platform revealed that it will add distinct buttons to its Android and iOS apps in the upcoming weeks, giving consumers more freedom over how they choose to play music in the app.

As mentioned by Spotify in a blog post, “This new change will allow you to choose the mode you prefer at the top of playlists and albums and listen the way you want to. Whether you love the joy of the unexpected with Shuffle mode, or prefer listening to tunes in order by simply pressing Play, Spotify has you covered.”

It’s important to note that, as of right now, hitting the play button in playlists and albums also activates the shuffle mode, which modifies the intended sequence in which tracks should be played. Users must tap each song in turn to play the tracks in the given successions. But the most recent upgrade to Spotify alters that.

Spotify users will be able to play tracks in the order they are listed in by tapping the Play button in playlists and albums. They must hit the separate Shuffle button that displays next to the Play button in order to shuffle the tracks. However, the distinct Play and Shuffle buttons will only be accessible to Spotify Premium members, according to a blog post from Spotify. The Shuffle and Play Buttons will now be separated for Spotify Premium subscribers, the firm said in a blog post, “making that decision more clearer and simpler.” As a result, users of Spotify’s free tier will need to upgrade to the platform’s premium service in order to hear songs from albums and playlists in the order they are listed.

Surprisingly, artists have also complained about Spotify’s lack of separate play and shuffle buttons. Adele had tweeted last year, “We don’t construct albums with so much care and attention into our track listing for nothing.” Following this tweet, the business switched the default play/shuffle button on album pages to the conventional play button. It is now putting out this feature as a default choice to at least some users.
