During PlayStation Showcase, Sony gave a sneak peek of Marvel‘s highly-anticipated Spider-Man 2 in a 10-minute gameplay demo. The gameplay gives a glimpse of the sequel, featuring Peter Parker in the symbiotic suit, Miles has got a suit upgrade, and there is a new but familiar villain in New York.
In the gameplay trailer, Peter Parker is seen wearing a black symbiote suit and appearing angrier than usual. He teams up with Miles Morales to stop Kraven from capturing Dr Curt Connors, also known as The Lizard. It is hinted that Venom may also make an appearance in the game.
In the game, Peter is developing large tentacles that he can use to throw objects and create a shield. This is causing Miles to worry about Peter’s changing attitude.
The gameplay remains mostly the same, but players can now switch between Peter and Miles by pressing the square button. However, this is only possible when prompted, as the square button is typically used for attacking enemies.
Similar to Peter, Miles possesses some new abilities and gadgets. One such gadget is the Web Grabber, which pulls enemies toward a specific location, letting him use his Thunder Burst ability, unleashing a powerful electric ground pound on the group of enemies. Additionally, he has the Chain Lightning ability that can shock enemies nearby.]
Miles’ voice actor Nadji Jeter hinted at a co-op mode in the upcoming Miles Morales sequel, but Insomniac clarified it would remain a single-player adventure like previous games.
Spider-Man 2 is the sequel to the original Spider-Man, released in 2018. The story picks up right after the events of the first title, including Miles Morales from the spin-off title Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
Spider-Man 2 will be released in fall 2023, exclusively on PlayStation 5.
The first two Spider-Man titles, Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales, are available on PS4, PS5, and PC.
