Special Faces is a shoelaces company on a mission

Special Faces is a Massachusetts-based company that designs and manufactures shoelaces using staff from a broader talent pool comprised of those with special needs and others traditionally deemed unsuitable for employment.

Today marks the official launch date of Special Faces – the shoelaces brand with a mission. The Massachusetts-based company designs and manufactures shoelaces using staff from a broader talent pool comprised of those with special needs and others traditionally deemed unsuitable for employment. Led by a team of experts from the retail industry, Special Faces is poised to revolutionize the stagnant shoelaces category and reimagine how businesses view hiring practices.

Special Faces will start with an employee base of more than 100 people traditionally considered unsuitable for employment, including special needs, disabled veterans, and previously incarcerated, and aims to become the largest employer of this talent pool in the country. Special Faces provides additional professional support for employees in all departments from its inspiring office space in Worcester, MA.

“This company is a labor of love,” said Special Faces Co-Founder and CEO Sean Fair. “We’d hoped to launch in 2020, but after some unexpected speedbumps, we’re thrilled to finally start our journey. With a special needs workforce, we’ve put a lot of thought and effort into building our business and ensuring that our team is properly supported. After careful time and consideration, the doors are finally open.”

Starting with a collection of more than 15 unique shoelaces, Special Faces plans to collaborate with major brands in the coming months to design limited-edition laces. Looking forward, the brand hopes to expand past shoelaces into other custom designs and, ultimately, become the largest employer for those with special needs in the United States.

“As a society, we need to examine how companies can embrace responsible hiring practices,” said Bruce Carter, co-founder of Special Faces. “There’s a huge talent pool with tons to offer, and while we’re happy to be doing our part, it’s a larger issue we hope to draw attention to. As the father of an extremely talented, special needs woman, I see the value in her many talents and would love for other companies to see the same.”

Co-founder Brooke Carter is a trusted advisor who will ensure all the proper steps are taken to support this unique workforce. Brooke said, “I can’t wait to see all the smiles we put on our customers’ faces because that’s what Special Faces is all about!”

Special Faces shoelaces will be available on its website starting today, and new designs will be added seasonally.
