sony: Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones launched with a new design and improved ANC at $400 – Times of India
The successor to one of Sony’s most popular WH-1000XM4 series wireless noise-cancelling headphones, the WH-1000XM5 is here with a new design, improved noise cancellation and a higher price tag. Sony has priced the headphones at $400 (roughly Rs 30,937).
The WH-1000XM5 comes in a new design with a step-less sliding headband, which is now thinner, and the headphones have a more cylindrical design than the WH-1000XM4. The earcups now rotate sideways rather inwards like their predecessor, due to which the WH-1000XM5 comes in a bigger carrying case shaped like a small backpack.
The headphones support Bluetooth 5.2 with a multipoint connectivity feature. Further, the WH-1000XM5 adds support for Microsoft Swift Pair in addition to the Google Fast Pair. The headphones offer gesture control, wear detection, and support for Google Assistant and Alexa.
The new wireless noise-cancelling headphones from Sony feature QN1 audio, a V1 integrated processor, and eight microphones, promising to offer better noise cancellation than its predecessor. The headphones also have an ambient sound mode. Further, the WH-1000XM5 comes with a smaller 30mm driver than the 40mm drivers used in the last generation WH-1000XM4. The new drivers are said to offer natural sound output with a better high-frequency response. The headphones support the same AAC, SBC and LDAC audio codecs. Also, Sony’s sound enhancement technology DSSE is available on these headphones.
The WH-1000XM5 offers the same battery life of 30 hours as the last generation WH-1000XM4. However, Sony’s newest headphones support fast charging, meaning a 3-minute charge can give you 3 hours of listening time.
