Sony is reportedly developing its standalone launcher on PC which is expected to be released in the upcoming days. As the company recently released Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered for PC, references to a “PlayStation PC Launcher” were found in the files of the game. An earlier report by Video Game Chronicle suggested that Sony might also introduce and integrate the PlayStation Network support into its PC games.
According to a report by XDA Developers (verified by Video Game Chronicle), references to “PSNAccountLinked” and “PSNLinkingEntitlements” were also found in Spider-Man Remastered. Moreover, the report states that the company could eventually allow users to cross-buy games for the PS5 and PC.
The importance of a PlayStation Network account for playing games on a PC
The report adds that currently, desktop gamers don’t need a PlayStation Network account to explore Sony’s titles on PC. However, players are also not allowed to transfer their save data from a console to a PC.

Without the PlayStation Network, the PC versions of PlayStation games also do not sync the trophies with the server, yet they do offer achievements. The report claims that this could change in the upcoming days to make things more convenient for PlayStation and PC owners.
How Sony has changed its gaming business strategy
As per the report, Sony has been more open in recent years as it has published some of its console-exclusive titles on PC. The company has been forced to adopt a different kind of business model due to the competition exerted by other rival companies like Microsoft.
Some of the most coveted PlayStation titles including — God of War, Days Gone and Horizon Zero Dawn has since been offered by the company for PC gamers. Currently, Sony is offering these games through digital retailers like –Steam and Epic Games.
Initially, Sony released Marvel’s Spider-Man game on the PlayStation 4 in 2018 which was then re-released on PlayStation 5 as Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered after two years. The title has sold over 30 million copies since its initial days and earlier Sony didn’t have to share some of its profits with PC distribution services like — Steam (which takes 30%) and Epic Games (which takes 12%), the report unveils.

The report also states that it will be interesting to see how Sony proceeds with its gaming business strategy as a “huge monetary potential” can be expected for the company by releasing its titles on PC.
