As we spend more and more of our lives online, we have been obliged to pay more attention to our words. We know we have to be extremely careful about what we say online. Even honest mistakes can lead to grave consequences. Famous celebrities get trolled for the smallest errors. Even a minor typo can lead to us becoming a laughingstock online. Recently, British High Commissioner Alex Ellis posted a tweet with a spelling mistake in a famous Bollywood movie’s name. However, not only did he rectify it via a retweet but he also found a sporting way to do so. Hence, instead of trolling him, Twitter users were merely amused.

The diplomat’s original tweet was about movies recommended to him to improve his Hindi. On the list were Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Gangs of Wasseypur and Lagaan. He said that he had already watched Lagaan, which is why he tells his colleagues every day “Dugna lagaan dena padega.” But this was not what caught the interest of Twitter users. Actually, Ellis had misspelt the first film’s name as “Chhole” (a famous Indian dish made with chickpeas). The mix-up would have immediately attracted laughing emojis. Less than 15 minutes later, Ellis retweeted his original post and clarified that he indeed meant Sholay and not chhole. He joked, “I haven’t had breakfast yet.” Check out the Tweet below:
