Apple has rolled out the version 12.1 update for macOS Monterey. The update brings with it new features and changes to the OS which include SharePlay, Photos and Messages app updates, expanded guidance with Siri and also comes with fixes for some major bugs. However, the Universal Control feature is not here yet with the new update. Let’s take a look at what new is here for MacBook users.
With version 12.1 comes SharePlay for Mac. Now you can connect with others on FaceTime and have shared experiences like music, films, etc. SharePlay lets you share content from the Apple TV app, Apple Music and other supported apps. The feature also adds shared control so that anyone in the group can pause, play, rewind or fast forward. Also, when you speak with your friends while having a synced content experience, the Smart Volume feature will automatically lower the volume of the audio playing. You can also share your screen on FaceTime.
The update also brings support for the Apple Music Voice Plan, the Photos app gets a new “Memories” experience, and the Messages app has been given new safety features for kids and parents. Plus, Mac users also get expanded guidance with Siri, Hide My Email and other features too.
The macOS Monterey v 12.1 update fixes these bugs too:
“Desktop and Screen Saver may appear blank after selecting photos from the Photos library
Trackpad could become unresponsive to taps or clicks
External displays may not charge some MacBook Pro and MacBook Air computers when connected using Thunderbolt or USB-C
HDR video playback on YouTube.com could cause 2021 MacBook Pro computers to panic
Menu bar extras may be obscured by the camera housing on 2021 MacBook Pro computers
MagSafe may stop charging on 2021 16-inch MacBook Pro computers when the lid is closed and system is shut down”
