Shahid Kapoor calls Amol Palekar ‘OG middle class good guy’, says: ‘It was a privilege to have him on Farzi’

In the upcoming Prime Video series Farzi, Amol Palekar plays grandfather to Shahid Kapoor’s character Sunny. The younger actor called Amol the ‘OG middle class good guy’ and shared it was a privilege to have him on the show. Also starring Vijay Sethupathi, Raashii Khanna, Kay Kay Menon, Regina Cassandra and Bhuvan Arora, Farzi will premiere on February 10. While this is the first time the veteran actor is appearing in a web series, he has acted in the Zee5 feature film 200 – Halla Ho in 2021. Another web series he had acted in, Gormint, is yet to be released. Shahid Kapoor is making his web debut with the show. The actor plays Sunny, an artist who tries to help out his grandfather’s struggling newspaper and printing press in Mumbai from going under. He gets his friend Firoz (Bhuvan) to help him forge banknotes. Sunny, who can copy any art, and Firoz, who is a printing expert, become successful in the enterprise even with police officer Michael (Vijay) and a mafia don Mansoor (Kay Kay) on their trail.

Speaking to the Hollywood trade magazine Variety, Shahid spoke about working with the veteran actor. He said, “[Amol] was just perfect for the part – he had the gravitas and the experience and the goodness and the integrity, the language, the face – the body of work that he has done adds to the show. It was a privilege to have him on the show and to get to share screen space with the OG middle class good guy.”

Farzi co-creators Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK also shared that they were lucky to have him on Farzi as he is very picky about his acting roles since switching to direction. They also revealed that the veteran stayed on as observer even after his scenes were done.

Raj added in the same article, “Farzi was a great template for us to talk about modern society, especially the middle class, the most neglected and the most angst-filled class – the under-appreciated and undervalued biggest section of the society… and to talk to the haves and have-nots, the whole juxtaposition of how especially Mumbai is, our country is – that’s the more deeper idea in it.”
