Sara Ali Khan confesses she’d use divorce to guilt trip Saif Ali Khan: ‘Abba, you don’t live with us’

Sara Ali Khan, while promoting her new film Gaslight, has confessed that she and her younger brother, Ibrahim Ali Khan, have played up being children of divorced parents and tried to play victims against them. She shared that she and Ibrahim have asked for things from their parents, Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, when they were younger, knowing they might feel guilty about the divorce. She also joked that she still does it sometimes at her current age as well. Saif and Amrita tied the knot in January 1991 and divorced in 2004 after 13 years of marriage. Sara was born on August 12, 1995 and Ibrahim on March 5, 2001. Saif married actor Kareena Kapoor in 2012 and they have two children, six-year-old Taimur Ali Khan, and two-year-old Jehangir Ali Khan.

During an interview with Bollywood Bubble for her upcoming Disney+ Hotstar film, Sara was posed the question if she and her brother have ever gaslit their parents. The young actor admitted that she had. She said, “Sometimes, we played the victim card. Like the obvious way, in my family dynamic. Like, ‘Abba is not here mummy, give this to us,’ at the age of 11, or, ‘Abba, you don’t live with us, give this to us,’ at the age of 15.”

Sara also joked that sometimes she has done even now. She laughed and said, “Replace 11 and 15 with 26.” After the divorce, she and her brother were brought up by their mother. In a 2021 interview, she had commented, “Even at the age of nine-year-old, I think I had the maturity to see that these two people living together in our home were not happy. And suddenly, they were much happier living in two new homes. For instance, my mom, who I don’t think had laughed in 10 years, was suddenly happy, beautiful, and excited, like she deserves to be. Why would I be unhappy if I have two happy parents in two happy homes?”

In Pawan Kripalani’s Gaslight, Sara plays a young woman who comes back home to find her father missing. She suspects foul play but no one seems to believe her. Chitrangda Singh and Vikrant Massey also star in the thriller.
