This September, Apple will hold one of its biggest launches for the iPhone 14 series and there is already a tonne of information available on the market. To add to it, there’s a new piece of information concerning the upcoming series according to which, Apple is currently evaluating display panels sourced from BOE. Furthermore, it has asked Samsung Display to ship over 80 million OLED panels that will be used with the upcoming iPhone 14 series.
Apple is sourcing 80 million OLED panels from Samsung Displays
South Korean giant Samsung’s display unit dubbed Samsung Display is currently the largest OLED supplier for Apple. Apple has asked the tech juggernaut to ship around 80 million units for the upcoming iPhone 14 series.
Samsung has reportedly entered into the mass production phase and will be delivering the units by the third quarter of this year. Samsung will be manufacturing OLED panels for iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 mini, and iPhone 14 Pro Plus unless Apple decides to change the nomenclature.
To go into further details, Samsung will manufacture two kinds of displays for the upcoming iPhone 14 series devices. This includes a low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) based on TFT as well as a low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) based on TFT as well.
Apple currently has three OLED panel suppliers for the upcoming models with Samsung Display taking the largest share. Samsung Display is the dominant player, and LG Display and China’s BOE take the second and third positions in manufacturing panels for the same. Apple is currently evaluating BOE’s OLED panels for the iPhone 14 series.
