samsung: Samsung may launch a Galaxy S21 FE 4G with Snapdragon 720G chipset – Times of India
Samsung introduced its first-ever Fan Edition handset — the Galaxy S20 FE — in 2020. The Galaxy S20 FE smartphone had two variants — a 4G version that came powered by the company’s Exynos 990 chipset and a 5G model that featured the Snapdragon 865 processor. In 2022, Samsung added the Galaxy S21 FE 5G version to the lineup, which packed the Snapdragon 888 SoC under its hood. According to a report by GSMArena, Samsung is now planning to introduce a 4G-only version of the Galaxy S21 FE. Considering the current prevalence of 5G networks worldwide and even with mid-rangers receiving 5G support, a 4G-only version of the smartphone might seem a little surprising, claims the report.
Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 4G expected details
The report suggests that the Galaxy S21 FE 4G is expected to sport a 6.4-inch Full HD+ display. The upcoming handset is likely to be powered by the Snapdragon 720G chipset backed with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB of storage.
Samsung used this processor for the 2021 Galaxy A52 smartphone, while Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi has also added this SoC to a variety of their devices. The Snapdragon 888 chipset found in the 5G version of the S21 FE is a higher-end processor than the Snapdragon 720G platform. The report doesn’t mention any other hardware difference between the 5G and the upcoming 4G variant.
The upcoming smartphone may feature a triple-rear camera setup that will include 12MP primary camera, 12MP ultra-wide-angle sensor and an 8MP telephoto lens. The device’s display might also house the 32MP front shooter for selfies and video calls.
As per the report, a new device has been discovered with the model number SM-G990B2 (5G version has the model number SM-G990B), which is said to be under development and will be coming with separate firmware. The upcoming model was also recently certified by the Bluetooth SIG, which confirms that the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 4G version will have Bluetooth 5.2, whereas the 5G version comes with Bluetooth 5.0.
The upcoming S21 FE 4G is expected to pack a 4500mAh battery unit and will boot Android 12 OS.
