Seoul [South Korea], February 8 (ANI): While Samsung is not expected to launch a new smartwatch series at its upcoming Unpacked event, it hasn’t forgotten the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic.
As per GSM Arena, the watch series are getting a big new software update that brings improved body composition insights as well as many other fresh features.
Starting February 9, both smartwatches will support new health and fitness features like custom interval training, sleep coaching, and the ability to set body composition goals. It’s also promising better app compatibility for the new Wear OS platform — but you’re still going to have to wait a bit for Google Assistant.
Additionally, Samsung is bringing a string of new watch faces and a new line of watch straps which will be available from Samsung and partner retailers.
The new body composition targets and insights include daily tips and reminders to help you stay on track with your specific fitness journey. You’ll get details on your specific body composition goals including weight, body fat percentage and skeletal muscle mass. These will be visible on the Samsung Health app on your phone.

The updated interval training feature allows runners and cyclists to set and track custom intensity training sessions. Samsung is also adding a per cent of VO2 Max reading to let you know how hard you’re pushing yourself as well as a new sweat loss indicator that measures the amount of sweat you lost during your workout and how much water you should consume to recover.
Another new addition is the recovery heart rate measurements which generate data up to two minutes after your workout ends.
Samsung is also bringing a new sleep coaching program that gives you personalized tips on how to get better rest. The new sleep coaching program is custom made for each user based on their daily routines as well as a new feature that can automatically switch off connected SmartThings devices like TVs and smart lights as soon as the watch detects you’re sleeping.
Samsung’s main announcements may be health-focused, but it also snuck in a promise to greater Android compatibility. The watches launched with Google Maps, Google Pay, and YouTube Music, as well as a handful of other third-party apps.
However, that’s been about it since the watches launched in late August. The company now said that it’s planning to enable easier setup, as well as the ability to stream directly to the wrist over Wi-Fi or LTE on the YouTube Music app.
It also re-confirmed that Google Assistant is, in fact, coming to the Galaxy Watch 4. Once it arrives, users will have the choice between Assistant or Samsung’s Bixby. As for when Samsung kept it vague. While the YouTube update will be “coming soon,” it said Google Assistant will be available “in the coming months.”
The new health features will be available via the Galaxy Wearable app beginning February 9. The new straps will be available in late February. (ANI)
