Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 will continue to offer IPX8 rating, not IP58 – Times of India
Ice Universe has now dropped another crucial detail about the Galaxy Z Fold5. Earlier, it was rumoured that Samsung will add the dust-proof rating this year with its foldable phones. However, as per the tweet, the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold5 won’t come with IP58 rating.
Although, the tweet does not mention anything about the phone not offering the IPX8 rating. This means the Galaxy Z Fold5 is likely to continue offering the IPX8 rating as the Galaxy Z Fold4.
Previous rumours suggested IP58 rating
According to the previous reports, the Galaxy Z Fold5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 were supposed to be the first foldable smartphones in the industry to offer IP58 — both water and dust resistant — rating. However, that rumour has not been denied by the tipster.
IP rating explained
For those unaware, the IP rating on phones or any other device represents its capabilities of being able to survive under water or from dust. The rating usually has two numbers — the first represents the dust resistant rating and the latter shows the water resistant capabilities of the device.
All that said, the Galaxy Z Fold4 currently has an IPX8 rating which means the phone is water resistant and not dust resistant. Similarly, the Galaxy S23 Ultra has IP58 rating which indicates that the phone is protected against both dust and water.
Changes likely to come with Galaxy Z Fold5
Based on leaks, rumours and renders, the biggest changes that we are probably going to see is interms of how the foldable phones fold. As per the reports, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will feature a gapless design which means, both the sides will close completely flat without any gap between the two sides. Which is important as it used to collect a lot of dust from the pockets and surroundings.
Another change that we will see is in terms of the performance as the phone will get an updated chipset, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
