Samsung has launched the fifth generation of its book-style foldable smartphone — Galaxy Z Fold5 5G alongside the Galaxy Z Flip5 5G, Galaxy Tab S9 series and Galaxy Watch 6 series at its Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event in Seoul, South Korea.

The biggest change about the new Galaxy Z Fold5 5G is its new Flex hinge design that makes the phone completely flat when folded and over 2mm thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold4 5G. Samsung says that the phone is now also lighter by around 10g than before.
Apart from that, the new foldable is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 — the same chipset that powers the Galaxy S23 series devices and comes with improved cameras, battery life and more.

Samsung has launched the Galaxy Z Fold5 5G at a starting price of $1,799. And, it comes in three colour options — Ice Blue, Phantom Black and Cream.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 5G: Specifications
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 5G retains the same design as its predecessors. However, it’s now slimmer by around 2mm and lighter by around 10 grams compared to Galaxy Z Fold4 5G.
The foldable also comes with the new Flex hinge which uses a tear-drop design to help the phone shut completely without any gap.
Galaxy Z Fold5 smartphone comes with a 6.2-inch HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X cover display with a 2316 x 904 pixels resolution and adaptive refresh rate of 48Hz and 120Hz. When you unfold the device, there’s a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex Display with a 120Hz refresh rate with Adaptive refresh rate support between 1Hz and 120Hz. The display has a peak brightness of 1750 nits for better visibility in bright conditions. The display also supports S Pen input.
Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Fold5 comes with Qualcomm’s latest chipset — Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 paired with 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and up to 1TB UFS 3.2 storage.
As usual, it has a total of 5 cameras — three at the back of the phone and two as the front camera on both displays. The primary display front camera is an under-display camera unit.
The rear camera setup includes a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide sensor and a 10MP 3x telephoto lens. The handset can also shoot up to 30X space zoom shots.
Samsung says that they’ve worked on several aspects of the camera to offer better details, sharpness and versatility with the Z Fold5 5G cameras.
The outer display front-facing camera is a 10MP sensor while the under-display unit is a 4MP sensor.
Galaxy Z Fold5 runs the Android 13 operating system underneath the One UI 5.1.1 user interface. As a part of the interface update, Samsung has added a new two-finger gesture that allows users to easily drag and drop things from one app to another. In addition to this, the taskbar also sees some improvements in the form of four recently opened apps.
The handset is backed by a 4400mAh battery and it supports 25W fast charging.
