samsung galaxy s22: Here’s why Samsung Galaxy S22, S21, S20 and S10 series have been banned by Geekbench – Times of India
Geekbench has decided to delist four of the Samsung flagship smartphone series–the S22, S21, S20 and S10–from the Geekbench browser, on grounds of Samsung’s Game Optimizing Service (GOS) throttling the performance of the games and apps in the devices launched as part of the aforementioned flagship series of smartphones, as per a report by Android Police.
According to the report, the Samsung Galaxy Note and A-series smartphones won’t be affected as they were not seen to be impacted while testing. Geekbench made the move to remove the four flagship smartphone series from the platform after reports claiming that OneUI’s GOS software throttles thousands of apps to improve battery life and maintain performance emerged.
“Earlier this week, we were made aware of Samsung’s Game Optimizing Service (GOS) and how it throttles the performance of games and applications. GOS decides to throttle (or not to throttle) applications using application identifiers and not application behavior. We view this as a form of benchmark manipulation as major benchmark applications, including Geekbench, are not throttled by this service.”, said Geekbench in a statement given to Android Police.
The benchmarking platform has pulled other devices from its browser in the past too, like the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro last year over OnePlus throttling their apps. As the above-mentioned Samsung series smartphones have been permanently delisted, it seems highly unlikely that Geekbench will restore them. Meanwhile, Samsung has reportedly planned on bringing an update that will allow users to control their gaming performance directly but there is no timeframe as to when the update may arrive.
