The fifth generation of Samsung foldables are here and they are still aspirational devices for many. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series’ pricing has either increased or stayed the same over the years. But, things could change. The company is reportedly trying to better position the pricing of its foldables.
“We are trying to make a leap in our price positioning,” said Samsung mobile chief TM Roh in an interview with Bloomberg post the Galaxy Unpacked event. How, you may wonder? Let’s see.
An affordable Samsung Galaxy Z Flip in the future
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 launched the other day at a starting price of ₹1,54,999. That’s the same as the Z Fold 4. And is ₹10,000 pricier than the Z Fold 3 5G. So, the price of the Samsung flagship foldable has either stayed the same or gone up.

The good thing is that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 price is lower than what the first-gen Z Flip debuted in India. We also a new found hope with the report that Samsung is looking to introduce much more affordable foldables to take on Apple’s mainstream iPhone lineup.
It is apparently in talks with its supply partners. It wouldn’t want to impact the quality or the experiential value. These partners could therefore perhaps cut down the cost by using more efficient production and designing methods or bulk sourcing of material. Economies of scale could help Samsung attain this goal of an affordable foldable.
In any case, the demand for folding phones seems bullish as per IDC and Counterpoint reports. The latter also believes Apple’s folding iPhone could come in 2025. So, Samsung which has had a headstart in this space will be looking to create a moat for itself before this happens. With its cheaper folding phone, the company could eye the mainstream iPhone market too.
