Rohit Sharma, Kuldeep Yadav return for West Indies series, Ravi Bishnoi receives maiden call-up – Firstcricket News, Firstpost

Star batter Rohit Sharma was named captain of the Indian side who are to play a limited-overs series against West Indies starting on 6 February. This will be Rohit’s first assignment as a full time captain of the limited overs side. The BCCI selectors announced the squad on Wednesday.

Rohit was earlier ruled out of the Test series as well as the ODIs against South Africa in the Rainbow Nation due to a hamstring injury. KL Rahul led the side against the Proteas in the ODI series, but the Men in Blue suffered a 0-3 clean sweep.

This time, Rahul has been named the vice-captain for both the teams.

But he received a fitness boost with news agency ANI reporting on Wednesday that Rohit had, in fact, passed the fitness test.

Meanwhile, young leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi, who took 12 wickets in each of the past two editions of the IPL, received a maiden call-up to the national side.

The BCCI stated the following in their press release:

Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Shami have been rested from the series.

KL Rahul will be available from 2nd ODI onwards.

R Jadeja is undergoing his final stage of recovery post his knee injury and will not be available for the ODIs and T20Is.

Axar Patel will be available for the T20Is.

Kuldeep Yadav, who last played white-ball cricket for India in July last year against Sri Lanka, makes a comeback to the squad.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar also retains his place in the T20I squad but doesn’t find a place in the ODI squad. Former skipper Virat Kohli, meanwhile, features in both the squads.
