Earlier this year in October, India rolled out 5G services as two prominent telecom providers — Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio — shared plans for the gradual rollout of their services. Back then, both companies had said that it will be a phased rollout and might take till early 2024 for pan-India 5G services. Now, Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani has confirmed that Jio 5G services will be rolled out pan-India in 2023.
Speaking at the Reliance Family Day function, Mukesh Ambani said that “Jio’s 5G deployment will be complete in 2023.” He also said that rural-urban divide will be erased. “Since every single village will have 5G connectivity, India has a historic opportunity to completely erase the rural-urban divide which has plagued our country for so long,” he said.
Ambani’s announcement comes a day after Jio 5G services were launched in Lucknow, Trivandrum, Mysuru, Nashik, Aurangabad, Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula, Zirakpur, Kharar and Derabassi. Jio says that it is the first (and only) telecom giant to launch 5G services in these cities.
Earlier this week, Jio launched its 5G services in Andhra Pradesh in Tirumala, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Guntur. The company invested over Rs 6,500 crores in deploying the 5G network in the state. Reliance Jio True 5G is already available in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Varanasi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Nathdwara and in all 33 district headquarters of Gujarat.
Ambani’s new year ‘advice’ to Jio employees

“Spend more quality time with your loved ones, for the growth of your families. Spend more quality time with your colleagues, for the growth of your teams,” he said. He also said that employees should “spend more quality time with yourself, for your self-growth.”
