Reliance Jio announces India’s first 5G data pack: Details, benefits, validity and more – Times of India
When Airtel and Reliance Jio announced their 5G services in India, they started offering 5G speed via their existing 4G prepaid and postpaid plans. However, Reliance Jio has now announced a new add-on data pack under a new 5G upgrade section on its website and My Jio app that brings 5G data to select plans.
Reliance Jio 5G data pack
The new 5G data pack costs Rs 61 and it brings 6GB of 5G data. It comes as an add-on pack that allows users to access 5G services on their phones. The pack does not have any validity, which means, it is dependent upon the current prepaid plan’s validity.
Rs 61 5G upgrade supported plans
Reliance Jio currently offers 5G services across all its prepaid plans starting at Rs 239. This means if you have an active plan on your phone that costs Rs 239 or above, you can already access Jio 5G services.
The Rs 61 data pack is valid for plans below Rs 239. This includes Rs 119, Rs 149, Rs 179, Rs 199 and Rs 209 prepaid plans.
Jio Welcome Offer invite is still required
Reliance Jio has already clarified that users will need to be in one of the cities where Jio is offering 5G services. Apart from that, users also need to have Jio Welcome Offer invite to be able to use the plan and 5G services.
Rs 61 is a 5G data pack and not a 5G plan
It is important to understand that Rs 61 is a 5G data add-on pack for select prepaid plans. It is not a standalone plan which comes with others benefits and its own validity like unlimited calling, SMS, etc. Basically, you can’t just recharge your phone with the Rs 61 5G upgrade plan and use it.

The Rs 61 pack is available on both Jio’s official website and the My Jio app. To recharge, head to the My Jio app and choose the Rs 61 plan under 5G upgrade section.
