PVR Inox has come up with a rather unique offering for movie goers in India. The multiplex has a Re 1 offer for a 30-minute screening, not of a movie but of 10 upcoming trailers. According to PVR Inox, this screening can help movie goers decide which movie to watch next.
The movie trailers will be showcased in English, Hindi and regional languages and it will give a glimpse of what’s in the lineup for the coming months. Tickets for this 30-minute trailer screening can be purchased from BookMyShow and Paytm.
“Trailers is all about sampling a film. If you like a sample of what you’ve seen, we believe that it would end up getting us a lot of additional footfalls,” Gautam Dutta, Co-CEO of PVR-Inox was quoted as saying by CNBC TV-18.
Ever since COVID-19, there has been a decrease in footfalls at multiplexes. Despite having fully opened and functional for almost one year, multiplexes are still not witnessing the expected number of movie goers. According to a report by Business Today, PVR’s Joint Managing Director Sanjeev Kumar Bijli expects multiple footfalls to return to pre-Covid levels in the next two to three quarters.
The latest strategy by PVR Inox is expected to help with the increase in audience numbers. The 30-minute screening is currently running as pilot in multiple cities, and the company says that it is witnessing over 35 percent viewership, according to the CNBC TV-18 report.
Movie trailers are already showcased before the start of a movie screening but these are limited to around four trailers. With the new special screening, customers who are interested can watch a total of 10 trailers and decide their movie going schedule for the next few months. It’s interesting to see if this strategy will indeed make some difference in multiplex footfalls.
