“I was very nervous to put my product out there for the first time,” said Kim. “But now that it’s officially launched, I’m elated to see such positive responses and receive warm support from the Kickstarter community. I can’t wait to show them what else we have in store.”

While the bike frame has evolved to all different kinds of e-bikes, clipless pedals have stayed the same for the past 20 years. Despite numerous studies conducted on pedaling technique and muscle training, there seemed to be a missing discussion on this particular tool.

Hark Moo Kim, the brain behind 2-Step Cleats and founder of his team DNJA, grew curious for answers. Kim particularly felt the limitations of his own cleats when riding routes in Korea that had a steady incline. He knew there had to be a better design. Using his engineering background and great passion for cycling, Kim dug deep into research in hopes to find a better solution.

After 2 years of development, Kim revealed 2-Step Cleats to the world through Kickstarter. It offers two different clipping positions – Front Position and Rear Position. Front Position keeps your feet secured the same way that regular cleats do while the Rear Position pushes the cleats back by 13mm and is coined “Power-saving Mode” as it reduces strain on the calves while pedaling. As a result, uphill climbing and long distance rides become a lot more manageable for cyclists. In just 2 weeks of it passing its Kickstarter funding goal, it has become a popular discussion topic within cycling forums.

“I was very nervous to put my product out there for the first time,” said Kim. “But now that it’s officially launched, I’m elated to see such positive responses and receive warm support from the Kickstarter community. I can’t wait to show them what else we have in store.”

Kim and his DNJA team have big aspirations to improve many overlooked components of the bike. Their journey only begins with 2-Step Cleats and expands to the saddle, pedal, and handlebar. They aim to break the Japanese brand Shimano’s dominance in the bike accessories market.

For a limited 30-days on Kickstarter, the 2-Step Cleats will be available for pre-order at 32% off on retail price. In order to learn more about 2-Step Cleats, visit its Kickstarter page here. In order to reach Hark Moo Kim directly, please write to [email protected].
