Following the popularity of the POCO X5 Pro, the company has recently released the vanilla POCO X5 in India. The new POCO X5 offers an expansive AMOLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 SoC, a 48MP triple camera array, and more, for about the same price as the POCO X4 Pro. Looking at the phones side by side, there are minute changes that might get overlooked. In this piece, we will address that query and explore how the new POCO X5 contrasts with the POCO X4 Pro. In this comparison, we’ll look at how the two phones differ in terms of price, design, and specifications.
POCO X5 vs POCO X4 Pro: price, availability
Starting with the price of both devices, the POCO X5 is available in India for Rs 18,999 for the base 6GB + 128GB variant and Rs 20,999 for the 8GB + 256GB storage variant.
On the other hand, the POCO X4 Pro is available in three RAM/storage configurations, starting with the 6GB + 64GB model for Rs 18,999, the 6GB + 128GB model for Rs 19,999, and the highest capacity 8GB + 128GB model for Rs 21,999.
POCO X5 vs POCO X4 Pro: design, display, performance, and camera
Design
The brand-new POCO X5 shares a lot of similarities with the POCO X4 Pro in terms of design, which is not necessarily a bad thing. The device features a triple camera setup on the back with individual lenses set on an island, and a large POCO logo is positioned next to the camera module. Moving to the button placement, the volume rockers and the power button—which doubles as a fingerprint sensor—are still found on the right side of the device. The SIM tray is on the left side, and the bottom houses the speaker unit, USB Type-C connector, and microphone. The secondary microphone, a 3.5mm audio jack, and an IR blaster are all located on the top edge. The POCO X4 Pro features a similar design aesthetic and a substantial rear camera island that spans the entire width of the device. The button and port locations match those of the X5.
Display
Both the POCO X5 and the POCO X4 Pro are equipped with a 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with support of 120Hz refresh rate, up to 360Hz touch sampling rate (on the X4 Pro), and 1200 nits of peak brightness. The displays on the two models are nearly identical, and neither model supports HDR10+ or Dolby Vision, which is otherwise found on Redmi smartphones that cost about the same. Nevertheless, both phones’ displays are decent given their price range and feature deep blacks and excellent colour reproduction, the two biggest traits of an AMOLED panel.
Processor, RAM, and storage
Both the POCO X5 and the older X4 Pro are powered by the mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 SoC. Countless other devices on the market use this particular chip which was introduced in late 2021. The Snapdragon 695 is known for its power-saving property which is achieved through a 6nm manufacturing process and comes paired with UFS 2.2 internal storage with LPDDR4X RAM. In relation to this, the POCO X5 is available in just two variations: 6GB RAM with 128GB ROM and 8GB RAM with 256GB ROM while the POCO X4 Pro has 6GB RAM with 64GB ROM, 6GB RAM with 128GB ROM, and 8GB RAM with 128GB ROM options.
In terms of the operating system, the new POCO X5 comes pre-installed with Android 12 and the company’s MIUI 14 user interface on top. Contrarily, the POCO X4 Pro came pre-installed with Android 12 and older MIUI 13 skin. The Android 13 update is slated to arrive for both devices in the upcoming months.
Camera
Where the two phones differ from one another is in the optics. Starting with the POCO X5, the device packs in a triple camera setup consisting of a 48MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 2MP macro lens. For selfies and video chats, there is a 13MP camera on the front.
The POCO X4 Pro in contrast comes with a triple camera setup with a primary 64MP sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 2MP macro lens. There is a 16MP camera on the front which helps with taking selfies and video calls.
Optical image stabilization (OIS) is not supported by either device, but they do have a variety of AI filters and video modes that are conveniently integrated into the camera app.
Battery
Both the POCO X5 and the POCO X4 Pro pack a 5,000mAh battery. The differences lie in the charging speeds where the vanilla X5 gets 33W fast charging support while the X4 Pro is equipped with Xiaomi’s proprietary 67W Turbo Charge technology, which can juice up the phone from flat to full in a matter of minutes. POCO has also bundled the 33W and 67W chargers in the respective boxes which is a big plus.
