Playstation fans, Sony may make you wait for another five years for the next upgrade – Times of India

The next PlayStation console is not coming until 2027, says none other than Sony. And you will not be able to play Call of Duty, Crash Bandicoot or any other Activision title to say.
The next-generation PlayStation console, probably known to be the PlayStation 6, will not be coming before late 2027 or 2028, says Sony in a document submitted to the Competition and Markets Authority of the United Kingdom as part of the ongoing Microsoft-Activision merger investigation.
Since the first PlayStation, the PlayStation consoles have had a shelf life of around 6 to 7 years, so it is not surprising that the next-gen PlayStation console would come 7 years after the launch of PlayStation 5, which launched two years ago, in 2020.
You won’t be able to play Call of Duty on the next-generation PlayStation, here’s why
While the year has been redacted in the publicly available document, Sony worrying about losing customers hints that the next PlayStation would come soon after Microsoft ends making Call of Duty and other Activision titles available on PlayStation consoles, which is until 2027.
Sony Interactive Entertainment says that even if the company tried to make an alternative for Call of Duty for PlayStation, it cannot. Even though it makes one, it would take multiple years and billions of dollars to create a franchise comparable to Call of Duty, which it does not expect to be successful.
Sony may soon bring a “slim” PlayStation 5
The next PlayStation may come in 2027, but rumours are rife that Sony is working on a “Slim” version of the PlayStation 5. Sony had a history of refreshing its console, sort of a mid-life upgrade, which ought to be slimmer and lighter. So, there are chances that PlayStation 5 may come to life sooner or later.
