Playing Sidekick, Each Found Their Soul Mate
Mr. Capps, 37, whom Ms. Osimiri characterized as “much more outgoing” than she, is from Los Angeles. A graduate of Vanderbilt University, he holds a law degree from the University of Southern California.
They soon found that “our differing personalities complement each other,” said Mr. Capps, who is now an associate at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP in Los Angeles. “Stephanie keeps me balanced.”
Ms. Osmiri, an associate dean of college counseling at the Crossroads School for Arts & Sciences in Santa Monica, Calif., said she appreciated how “Jason loves to be around tons of friends and family,” adding, “he makes new friends wherever he goes.”
From 2012 on, “our relationship matured slowly,” Ms. Osimiri said. There were highs, including when the two moved in together in downtown Los Angeles in 2016, and lows, which included the death of Mr. Capps’s grandmother, with whom he was very close, in 2020.
Regardless of how gradually their romance progressed, “I always knew that it was something special,” said Ms. Osimiri of her bond with Mr. Capps, who proposed in late December 2020, while they were on vacation in Santa Ynez, Calif.
On Jan. 22, they had a traditional Nigerian wedding celebration in Dallas. According to the custom, Mr. Capps hid himself among the 250 guests, while Ms. Osimiri walked around to find him; when she did, she offered him wine that he sipped to solidify their union. The couple also danced amid a “money spray,” during which guests tossed cash around in a wish for prosperity.
