Google keeps on updating its speech recognition models to make users’ interactions with its voice assistant more helpful and natural. A company help page says that the latest flagship smartphone lineup from Google — the Pixel 7 series — includes a feature that can help Google Assistant to get better at recognising the unique speaking style, words, and phrases of different users. Google Assistant’s “personalised speech recognition” feature is only available on Pixel 7 and 7 Pro devices and is completely different from other voice-related features like — Assistant Voice Typing on Gboard and others. Users can choose to enable or disable this feature from the Google Assistant settings.
How does the feature work
Google Assistant’s personalised speech recognition feature saves the interactions between the user and the voice assistant. The feature securely stores various interactions including corrections and audio recordings to learn the words and phrases that are important for the user.

The support page explains that users can correct an acronym when they ask Google Assistant about something, or can choose a suggested alternative name of a place while using it to navigate.
These interactions will help Google Assistant to learn and improve itself “over time and across contexts” if the speech recognition feature is enabled.
