Holi is one of the most popular Hindu festivals celebrated with much aplomb. This year, Holi was marked on March 8. The festival of colours also has a number of traditional sweets associated with it, and one of the most popular ones is gujiya. Portions of dough are filled with dry fruits, mawa and sugar to make a deep-fried pastry that is every bit delicious. The incident happened on March 8 on a SpiceJet plane from Delhi to Guwahati. In the picture, the pilots hands were visible and they were enjoying gujiyas while seated in the cockpit. Reports suggested that the click was taken when the plane was soaring at 37,000ft.

The click went viral on Twitter and an investigation was launched. Both pilots were taken off the roster until further inquiry. Consumption of food inside the cockpit is strictly prohibited. “Both pilots have been off-rostered pending an inquiry. SpiceJet has a strict policy for the consumption of food inside the cockpit which is adhered by all flight crew. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken upon completion of the investigation,” a SpiceJet spokesperson said.

Internet users too shared their comments and reactions to the news. Some felt that it was irresponsible and dangerous of the pilots to eat gujiyas while flying. Others said that the photograph could be an older one and it would be better to do a proper investigation first.
