The first-ever listing of Progressive Dairy’s “influential people in dairy” lets readers celebrate and share stories of those who inspired them and helped shape their lives, careers, and dairy farms. Mike Kelley was nominated by several Paul Mueller Company co-workers struck by his caring nature, dedication to dairy farmers, and drive to better dairy equipment and the dairy industry overall.
“My first introduction to the dairy industry was through Mike. He remains, to this day, my go-to resource for any questions I have regarding equipment, processes, or the industry in general,” says Service Technician Eric Schmeling. “I’ve spent many months with Mike traveling throughout Canada and the United States where we visited dealerships, farms, trade shows, and restaurants that were new to me. We have built a friendship, and I owe much of my professional development in this field to him.”
Kelley was a dairy producer in Pennsylvania before opening a dairy equipment service and supply dealership with his father. Several years later, when recruited by Paul Mueller Company, he put his expertise and mentoring skills to work in several roles. Over the following 30 years, Kelley’s roles included service technician, service manager, and product manager. He now serves as the Canadian regional sales manager for the dairy farm equipment business unit. In addition, as voluntary chair of 3-A Sanitary Standards’ Work Group 9 (Farm/Raw Milk) for almost a decade, he has been influential in keeping milk quality and dairy industry standards high.
“Mike Kelley’s influence on the dairy industry reaches far outside the North American markets into South and Central America, Europe, Africa, Australia, Japan, and beyond,” says Technical Services Manager Kevin Bartholomaus. “His influence is quite literally–global. I can think of no better representative of the dairy industry from farm to table than Mike Kelley.”
“Throughout my career in the dairy industry, starting as a service technician and working into the manufacturing side, Mike Kelley has always been willing to mentor, support, educate, and share whatever bit of knowledge he thought might be helpful to you, whether it was about milking equipment–or just life,” says Service Manager Alex Wolgamott. “That’s just the kind of guy he is.”
