Flamboyant Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala was on Sunday honoured posthumously with ‘Waris Shah International Award’ in Pakistan.

The honour was bestowed on Sidhu by Pakistan-based literary society “Punjabi Virsa” along with poet Dr Surjit Singh Patar and writer Harjinder Pal Jinder.

The award is given to Punjabi writers and litterateurs for promoting Punjab culture. Sidhu Moosewala has become the first singer to be honoured with this award.

Pakistani writer and president of the Waris Shah International Award Committee, Ilyas Ghumman, has shared a picture on Twitter where a group of Punjabi writers and singers can be seen commemorating Sidhu with the prestigious award. “24/7/2022 Sheikhupura Punjab Pakistan Sidhu Moose Wala honoured with ” Waris Shah International Award” in a huge gathering of Punjabi writers & singers,” the caption of the post reads.

This is for the second time that the award will be conferred on an Indian personality. Earlier in 2000, poetess Amrita Pritam was given this honour.
