Smartphone maker Oppo announced the “Oppo Research Institute Accelerator,” oriented towards the empowerment of entrepreneurs and technology professionals who work on innovative solutions for a better future. The company says that the accelerator is based on the value of “Inspiration ahead.” Oppo has roped in Microsoft for Startups as its strategic partner for the innovation fund.
“OPPO believes deeply in the idea of ‘Virtuous Innovation’. As we continue to explore new technology, we remain dedicated to doing so in a way that puts people first. Through technology, we are attempting to solve some of the biggest issues facing humanity so that we can create a better world for all,” said Levin Liu, Vice President and Head, OPPO Research Institute in a press statement.
He further added, “With the severity of global issues like aging populations, poor public health, and digital divide increasing day by day, we could not rely on our own efforts to provide solutions. We have therefore initiated the Innovation Accelerator to empower likeminded innovators to solve these big issues together with us using the power of technology.”
The theme of Oppo’s accelerator is ‘Virtuous Innovation,’ looking for proposals under ‘Accessible Technology’ and ‘Digital Health.’ Either individuals or teams can submit proposals, and a maximum of ten proposals will get awarded a grant of $46,000 each. These proposals will also get further investment opportunities, technical support, commercial partnerships and promotion at events across the globe throughout their journey.
The online applications for the 2022 Innovation Accelerator began on May 8th, and applicants can submit their proposals by June 30. Winners will be announced after a successful review of documents, preliminary assessment and the first round of demo.
