OPPO’s flagship for the year 2022, the OPPO Find X5 Pro, is out. It joins the list of flagships that have been introduced in the last couple of months including Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Ultra series, iQOO 9 Pro series, and the OnePlus 10 Pro (likely to debut in India mid-April).
Can the OPPO Find X5 Pro complete against the Galaxy S22 Series and the OnePlus 10 Pro series?
Well, a lot depends on the OPPO X5 Pro India launch timing and price in the country. While there is no clarity about the Find X5 Series launch in India, the brand was gracious enough to loan us a review unit for hands-on experience. Here’s what we feel about the phone:
Unboxing the OPPO Find X5 Pro
The unit that OPPO loaned us is manufactured in and is for Malaysia. A simple gray box houses the phone, an 80W superVOOC charger, a protective case, and a charging cable. A good quality screen protector is pre-applied right out of the box.

Frankly, all of that box content is certainly more than what we expect of flagships in 2022.

OPPO Find X5 Pro Review: Design
If you have seen the OPPO Find X3 Pro, you will find that the Find X5 Pro is not much different from its predecessor. OPPO follows the same design template where there is a curved ceramic back panel with a glossy mirror-like finish. OPPO’s iconic camera bump from the X3 Pro can also be spotted here.
The camera module is also part of a single piece of ceramic sheet that is curved on all sides. The Ceramic black panel has a mirror finish that looks premium while offering better scratch resistance than plastic or glass.
Logos of ‘OPPO’ and Hasselblad sit together vertically placed at the back panel. There is also a ‘Powered by MariSilicon’ caption on the camera. The phone is slightly heavier than Find X3 Pro but thanks to excellent weight management it didn’t feel like a phone that weighs north of 200g.
Upfront, there is a curved display with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus on top. The side rail that holds the ceramic back and display together is made of metal. The flagship device carries an IP68-rating for dust and water resistance which is a welcome addition. There are stereo speakers onboard, with Dolby Atmos support making it a complete package.
OPPO Find X5 Pro Review: Display
The Find X5 Pro sports a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen that wraps around the edges of the phone. The QHD+ screen looks mesmerizing and is capable of reproducing over 1.07 billion colors. It has a peak brightness of 1300 nits.
I seriously loved watching content on the OPPO Find X5 Pro. It is sharp and vibrant and has excellent color accuracy. Contrast is excellent and that’s noticeable when streaming content on OTT apps like Netflix or Disney+.
Since it’s an LTPO panel, it can adjust the display refresh rate as per the content in order to conserve the battery. The 120Hz panel can go as low as 1 Hz when there is static content on the screen. The smoothness of a 120Hz panel can be felt while scrolling or swiping.
By default, the display color preference is set to vivid which tends to favour boosted colors with a hint of cold bias. I prefer the Natural mode which is relatively more accurate for most content and also more pleasing to my eye.
OPPO Find X5 Pro Review: hardware and software
OPPO’s ColorOS system takes the center stage offering slew of Google’s Android 12 features. The latest ColorOS version has the option to change accent colours as per the wallpaper.
The software is overwhelmingly loaded with features and options but lacks some finesse. This is one main reason why it doesn’t get the appreciation that it deserves.
There are so many customization options, menus toggles, privacy features that one can tweak. There are features like a floating window, theming engine, gesture customization, and more.
The Oppo’s flagship for 2022 packs top of the hardware inside to ensure it is right up there in terms of performance. It is driven by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 mated to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. It also has the virtual RAM feature where you can reserve part of ROM to act like RAM.
In my limited experience with the Find X5 Pro, it managed to offer blazing fast performance. I played demanding games, did photo edits, watched HDR content during my testing and the Find X5 Pro performed every task without a hitch.
As for connectivity, OPPO has left no stone unturned. It supports Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, AptX HD audio codec, and global 5G bands with a 360-degree antenna design. It supports most of the 5G bands (20 bands) that are available today.
OPPO Find X5 Pro Review: Cameras
For the Find X5 Pro cameras, OPPO collaborated with Hasselblad (just like Oneplus). The triple camera setup includes a 50-megapixel Sony IMX776 main camera with f/1.7 aperture and 5-axis stabilization (OIS), a 13MP telephoto camera with f/2.4 aperture, and a 50MP Sony IMX776 Ultra-Wide camera with f/2.2 aperture. There is a 32MP Sony IMX709 RGBW selfie camera with an f/2.4 aperture on the front. What’s also worth pointing out is the dedicated MariSilicon X ISP that OPPO is using here to deliver better results.
The OPPO Find X5 Pro primary rear camera takes pictures with vibrant colors and ample detail in most conditions. With AI algorithms tuned to deliver social media-ready images, color accuracy is not the priority here. Results will look very pleasing to most users.
There is five-axis stabilization where OPPO has paired a 3-axis sensor shift with a 2-axis optical stabilization in the lens. This results in very stable videos and enhanced low light shots. Both main and ultra-wide camera uses the same lens with different focal lengths. This helps OPPO to maintain consistency in exposure and color science between the wide and ultra-wide shots. In fact, the ultra-wide camera on the OPPO Find X5 Pro is one of the best in the business.
OPPO Find X5 Pro Review: Battery
The Oppo Find X5 Pro’s 5,000mAh battery delivers excellent battery life. I manage to get a full day of battery life even after surfing the web, consuming content on OTT apps, clicking photos, and listening to podcasts & music. If you are into gaming or consume too much content on the phone then you might have to top it up before the end of your today.
What impresses me, even more, is the charging speed. The OPPO find X5 Pro ships with an 80W charging brick. It can do 0 to 50 percent in just 12 minutes and we can verify that these official claims are true!.
Review verdict: Should I buy the Oppo Find X5 Pro?
I wish you could but you can’t and that’s because OPPO is yet to launch it in India. The OPPO Find X5 Pro is an excellent smartphone offering premium build and finish with top-class performance. Its 80W fast charging is a good enough reason to buy it. It’s a fabulous camera phone with a gorgeous screen that could have easily given Galaxy S22 series a run for its money.
