Nothing responds to Phone (1)’s display brightness controversy – Times of India

Ever since Nothing launched its Phone (1), it has been into some controversies. One of them was over the handset’s peak brightness level after the company silently changed the specifications of the phone on the official website. The company has now confirmed the issue and has released an official statement via an email to Android Authority.
Those unaware, Phone (1) was initially pitched to offer 1200 nits of peak brightness which was a good deal for a smartphone of this price range. However, after a couple of week’s of the launch, the company changed the brightness figures to 700 nits of peak brightness.
In a statement provided to Android Authority, the company has mentioned that “The hardware is capable of reaching up to 1,200 nits peak brightness, but this is currently capped by the software to 700 nits”.

The statement further adds, “This decision was made to ensure a balanced user experience regarding heat and battery consumption. We look forward to hearing from our users about this and will monitor feedback closely to understand if this should be addressed in future software updates.”
Nothing has also provided more details on the brightness levels of the Phone (1)’s display to Android Authority. According to that, the handset can achieve 500 nits of normal brightness level. However, with Auto brightness it will achieve 700 nits of peak brightness. The 700 to 1200 nits is supposed to be a special mode for the Phone (1) which is currently unavailable due to software limitations.

It’s a good thing that Nothing has come up to explain the entire brightness ‘game’ going on with the Phone (1). However, it still does not explain the reason behind limiting the brightness level if the hardware is capable of delivering it.
