“Not Ice Cream But Oil Cream” – Viral Video Of Chocolate Ice Cream Angers Foodies

It can be fascinating to learn how some of our favourite foods are made. Getting a sneak peek into the kitchens where they are cooked seems like discovering a secret only a few are privy to. However, in some cases, knowing what happens ‘behind the scenes’ is far from appetising. And once we find out what really goes into preparing those food items, we might even stop liking them altogether. Just last week, an Instagram reel showing the making of salted peanuts in Gujarat shocked foodies (read the full story here). Before that, it was a video on murmura that went viral (watch here). Now, another such video has surfaced and this time, it is chocolate ice cream that is the food in focus.

The reel was shared by Instagram user @planetashish. The text on the video itself serves as a warning: “Ice cream khana bhool jaoge (You’ll forget to/ give up eating ice cream)”. The video shows milk being processed and thickened to form the ice cream base. This mixture is then poured into moulds. Sticks are placed inside each; the ice cream is later de-moulded and collected together. The person then begins preparing the chocolate component. We see melted chocolate being combined with large amounts of oil to form a runny syrup-like liquid. The plain ice creams are dipped into this chocolate syrup and allowed to freeze again. The video has garnered 674K views till now. In the comments, many people wanted to know which company’s ice cream factory was shown. One user wrote, “Admin bhai sath mein company ka naam bhi daldo.” (Admin, write down the company’s name also). Another said, “It’s a local company from anywhere… they do all this procedure.” Some felt that this is how street vendors/ food stalls make ice cream. “Thele wali ice cream aisi hi banti hai.” Read some of the other reactions below:
