MUMBAI: Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag has denied recent speculation that he was approached for the chief selector’s post by the Indian cricket board (BCCI).
“No,” Sehwag replied when TOI asked him about any such offer being made.
The BCCI has been without a chief selector since Chetan Sharma lost his job in February following a sting operation, in which he was seen talking about confidential information related to the Indian players and team selection.
Since then, ex-India player Shiv Sunder Das has been operating as the interim chief selector, with S Sharath (south), Subroto Banerjee (central) and Salil Ankola (west) as other members of the panel.
BCCI puts out ad for selector’s post The BCCI on Thursday put out an advertisement on its website for the position of member of the men’s selection committee.
The selected candidate is likely to be the new chief selector of the committee.
The candidate should have a) played seven Tests or b) 30 firstclass matches, or c) 10 ODIs and 20 first-class matches.
He should have retired from the game at least five years previously.
The last date to apply for the post is June 30.
At a time when there are calls for a transition in the team, the new selector will be required to “plan and prepare a strong bench strength” and “appoint a captain for the team in each format”
