No. of heatstroke patients up at hospitals as temp increases – ET HealthWorld

Indore: District health authority has geared up to tackle rising cases of heatstroke in the district amidst rise in the temperature in the last one week.

Many people, including children, are visiting OPD of hospitals in the city with complaints related to the heatstroke. MGM Medical College assistant professor Dr Dharmendra Jhanwar said, “Many people are reaching OPD of hospitals with issues of vomiting, diarrhoea, fever and others.”

“Patients with complaints of vomiting, diarrhoea and fever constitute about 40 per cent of the total patients in the OPD now. So, people need to be cautious while going outside. They shall consult doctors on high grade fever,” said Dr Jhanwar.

Super Speciality Hospital cardiologist professor Dr AD Bhatnagar said, “Many people are visiting Super Speciality Hospital with issue of blood pressure due to rise in temperature. They complain about weakness, tiredness and other complications.”

The rise in temperature to around 40 degrees Celsius has increased cases of heatstroke. In heatstroke, body temperature suddenly rises after coming in contact with sunlight. District epidemiologist Dr Anshul Mishra said, “A state-level training was held recently in Bhopal for increasing awareness to tackle heat related issues and surveillance of them.”

“Monitoring of heat related issues has started at all government facilities OPD and awareness activities also”, added Dr Mishra. Explaining the methods to prevent heatstroke, Dr Mishra said, “Children and elderly should avoid going outside during afternoon. They should cover themselves properly while stepping outside.”
