Whenever singer Neha Bhasin puts up her picture on social media, she gets trolled for her sartorial choices and body type, with some calling her a “pornstar” for posting such pictures. However, the singer doesn’t take it to heart, instead, she has huge respect for people working in the adult film industry, and feels it should “not be used as an abuse”.

She explains, “Now, I am so bored of all the negativity about my body, or choice of clothes. This is my 21st year in the industry, and I feel people should stop getting shocked now because It is who I am and it is my choice.”

The 40-year-old adds that all this negativity stems from the basic mindset of majority of people.

“These are people that are not able to accept an Indian woman who is very confident, and someone who revels in her own confidence, body, sexuality and sensuality. I am not trying to make a difference or be different. I am very okay and happy. I love the way I dress up and the way I look,” she asserts.

In recent pictures, which the singer posted on Instagram, she was trolled where people labelled her a pornstar. How does she react to those?

“I have the utmost respect for porn stars. They work in the adult film industry out in the open. They don’t have any facade, or are not hiding behind any hypocrisy of the society who watches these porn stars behind closed doors and then passes judgments about them. I think I pretty much live my life like them. I am what I am,” shares the singer, who has crooned chartbusters such as Jag Ghoomeya (Sultan), Dhunki (Mere Brother Ki Dulhan), Parwah among others.

Bhasin maintains that she isn’t a hypocrite when it comes to the way she dresses, what she wears or thinks. “I don’t feel bad about being called anything because kissi ke bolne se main woh hoti nahi hun. If somebody calls me a pornstar, I am not going to become a pornstar. I will remain Neha Bhasin. Also, I have a lot more respect for the pornstars than I do for these people who are calling me that,” she says.

Ask her if it is fair to use the term like an abuse, and she is quick to note that it is not fair.

“But, the world is not fair. Life is beautiful but the world is not. Today, this power has been given to the masses to come on the internet and just what they feel like. The same people will not have the guts to come to you when they meet you. It is not fair (to use the term porn star as an abuse). But when people want to insult a woman they tend to use words like these. Like porn star, character dheela hai, bhuddhi, or tharki. I am bored of such words, they better bring something original,” she signs off, urging for stricter cyber laws to put a check on the trolls.
