Nashik: Civil hospital to get centralised laboratory

Nashik: The civil hospital administration has decided to bring all the laboratories functioning on their premises under one roof.

According to an official, there are as many as seven laboratories — water testing, routine pathology, RT-PCR, dengue and malaria, tuberculosis, HIV and sickle cell anaemia located at different places on the civil hospital premises.

“We, therefore, decided to bring all the laboratories under one roof. They will come up above the existing blood bank and laboratory for which the funds will be made available from the national health mission,” the official said.

The scope of the hospital is increasing and there around 2,000 people visit the out-patient department (OPD) of the civil hospital on any given day. The laboratories are under stress due to which there is a need for increasing the testing facilities for which more space is required.

The RT-PCR laboratory was also set up at Nashik civil hospital with a capacity of testing 1,500 samples per day after the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic and this has enabled even testing of samples of many other diseases which otherwise would be required to be sent to Pune and the reports of the same would be made available after around 36 hours — depending upon the numbers of samples there.

The construction and addition of the testing equipment for the centralised laboratory is likely to cost Rs 8 lakh. The official added that with the laboratories shifting to the centralized space, the vacant spaces would be used for patient care.
